When We Collided

Plot Outline

Jonah is struggling to deal with his father’s death and he also has to help care for his family. He meets Vivi who loves life. As they spend more time together they begin to change each others lives.

My Opinion

I heard so many rave reviews about this book but I was left disappointed as it wasn’t as good as I was expecting it to be. One of the main characters in this book has a mental illness and people focused on this in their reviews. I really want to read more books about mental illness as it is something that I know very little about but would like to learn more as it is such an important issue. Whilst one of the characters does have a mental illness this isn’t the main focus of the book. The book instead focused on the relationship between Vivi and Jonah. I was not a fan of the romance. It happened very suddenly and I would have liked to have seen more development. I also didn’t, particularly like Jonah. This book was dual perspective and I really would have preferred to read Vivi’s perspective. I did feel that the author’s portrayal of the mental illness did seem realistic. Overall this was a good book but it wasn’t as good as I was expecting it to be. I think that this book was very overhyped which meant that I had really high expectations for it and unfortunately these were not met.
