Top 10 Tuesday: Books I Plan To Read On The Beach

This week’s topic for Top 10 Tuesday is books that I plan to read on the beach. For me, my ideal beach read is a light-hearted summery contemporary. I do love fantasy books but I find during the summer I reach for contemporaries a lot more.

Everything Everything

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon- This has been on my TBR for awhile. This book is about a girl who is allergic to everything which means she can’t leave her house. When a new guy moves in next door she soon falls for him. This sounds like it is going to be a sweet love story which is the perfect thing to read whilst at the beach. Isla and the Happily Ever After

Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins- I really enjoyed the previous two books in this trilogy. I can’t wait to see what will happen in this final book. I love the love stories that Stephanie Perkins is able to create.  Solitaire

Solitaire by Alice Oseman- This is a contempoary novel. I’m not too sure what it is about but I know that it deals with mental health. I really want to read moe books about mental health as I think that is such an important topic. Twenties Girl

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella- I really enjoy Sophie Kinsella’s books and I am trying to read all of them. This is the next one that is on my list. This one is about a girl who is visited by the ghost of her great aunt who needs her to find a missing necklace. I think Sophie Kinsella’s books are the perfect books for the beach as thye always make me laugh. Wedding Season

Wedding Season by Katie Fforde- I’ve had this book on my shelf for awhile. I have never read anything by Katie Fforde before but I am looking forward to trying a new contemporary author. What Alice Forgot

What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty- I love Liane Moriarty’s books and I want to read them all. This one is about Alice who wakes up to discover that she has forgotten 10 years of her life. This book follows her as she tries to remember the past 10 years. Liane Moriarty always creates really realistic characters and there is usually a mystery element to her books which I love. Always the Bridesmaid

Always the Bridesmaid by Lindsey Kelk- I really enjoy the I Heart series by Lindsey Kelk as they are fun, light hearted reads. This is one of her standalones and I am looking forward to read it as I am sure that it will be a fun read. After You

After You by Jojo Moyes- This is the sequel to Me Before You  which I really enjoyed. I am imagine that this will be an emotional read but I am interested to see what this will be like.  The Crown

The Crown by Kiera Cass- This is the final book in The Selection series and I can’t wait to see how Kiera Cass is going to wrap up the series. This series is so much fun and they are perfect quick summer reads. Summer Days and Summer Nights

Summer Days and Summer Nights by Stephanie Perkins- This is probably the best book for the beach as it is a collection of short summer stories. I am looking forward to reading this collection as I really enjoyed My True Love Gave To Me.

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey Review

The 5th Wave Review

The Infinite Sea

Plot Outline

This is the second book in The 5th Wave Trilogy. This book picks up where the last one left off. The situation for the survivors is getting worse. The Others want to completely wipe out the human race and they will do anything to achieve this.

My Opinion

If you’ve read my review of The 5th Wave then you will know that I really did not enjoy it. If I didn’t already own the second book I never would have picked it up. An issue that I had with The 5th Wave was the pacing. I found it so slow and it took me a really long time to finish. This book is much shorter and I found it to be more fast paced and the chapters were much shorter. Although we still get multiple POVs I didn’t find it as confusing in this book. The POV didn’t seem to change as often as they did in the 1st book. Many people complain about the length of this book as it is much shorter than the first one. However, I really enjoyed the length of this book as I thought the first one was unnecessarily long. In this book,  I had a better understanding of what was happening and I found it much easier to follow the plot. The plot took a really interesting turn and it was left on a cliffhanger. I will be reading the last book at some point as I want to see how the story ends. I think this could have been condensed into one book.

Currently Watching (May 2016

I love watching TV. I watch quite a lot of TV but I tend to only watch a few series at a time. I will watch all the episodes before moving onto  a new show. Whilst Pretty Little Liars and Shadowhunters are not on at the moment I needed to find something new to watch. I recently finished watching 90210 and after hearing so many good things I decided to start Once Upon a Time. My love for this show inspired me to talk about what I am currently watching.

Once Upon a Time

I started watching this at the end of April and I have nearly finished season 2. I have become 100% addicted to this show. The premise for this show is that all the fairy tales are real. The evil queen casts a curse to bring all the fairy tale characters into the real world but they can’t remember who they are. I love how all the different character stories are woven into each episode. Regina is such a great villain and she’s one of my favourite characters. I’d highly recommend this show as it has very quickly taken over my life.

The Flash

I started watching this when it first aired on TV and now it is on season 2. I have never really been into superheroes until I started watching this. I was missing The Tomorrow People and when I heard that Robbie Amell was going to be in The Flash I decided to watch it. I ended up really enjoying it Cisco is my favourite character as he is so funny. This show has a lot of plot twists and I never know what will happen.

After watching season 1 of The Flash I decided to try Arrow. Arrow is set in the same world as The Flash and they often have cross- over episodes which are the best thing ever. There is so much happening in this show and it always keeps me on my toes as I never know what is going to happen. I love Oliver and Felicity and I think they make the perfect couple. Something happened recently and I am still in shock.

I love this show so much. It is very simple. It is a show about people watching TV. You sit and watch other people watch TV. It sounds terrible but it is really funny and it is a good light hearted programme to watch on a Friday night.

What are you currently watching?

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Me Before You

Plot Outline

When Lou Clark loses her job she gets a new job as a carer for Will Traynor. Will was in a motorbike accident and is now paralysed. The accident took away Will’s desire to live will Lou be able to change his mind?

My Opinion

It took me awhile to get into this story but once I had gotten into it I really enjoyed it. At first, I really didn’t like Lou as I found her character really annoying. However, Lou soon grew on me and I ended up really liking her character. I thought that this was really well  written and it kept me captivated throughout. The ending is quite predictable but, I still found it to be really emotional. This is one of the few books that I have cried at as I don’t usually cry at books. Although the ending was emotional it felt quite rushed. The whole book had been building up to this point and I would have liked to have seen more. I wasn’t a huge fan of the chapters that were from other characters point of view. I felt that these chapters didn’t add a lot to the story. I would like to reread this at some point as I thought that this was a really good book and I enjoyed. I am really excited for the film as from the trailer it looks like it is going to be a really good adaptation.

Top 5 Wednesdays

Top 5 Wednesday: Summer Reads

This week’s topic is Summer Reads. I have decided to include 3 books that I would recommend you read this summer and 2 books that I plan on reading this summer. I will warn you that all of the books on this list are contemporary as I think summer is the best time to read contemporary novels. If you want to check out the Goodreads group then the link is here.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han– Although this isn’t my favourite series when I read these books they just made me think of summer. When I was reading them I really wanted to be at the beach in the sun. These books take place at a beach house that the characters visit each summer and it sounded like so much fun.

Wedding Night

Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella– The characters in this book go to Greece which just screams summer to me.

Anna and the French KissAnna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins– I loved this book it is such a sweet romance and it is set in Paris which I think would be the perfect place to go during the summer.

Summer Days and Summer Nights

Summer Days and Summer Nights edited by Stephanie Perkins-  I am so excited for this book. It is a collection of summery short stories. I really enjoyed My True Love Gave To Me and I am looking forward to discovering some new authors.

The Seafront Tea Rooms

The Seafront Tea Rooms by Vanessa Greene- This book just screams summer to me. I enjoyed The Vintage Teacup Club by Vanessa Greene so I am excited to read this.

What’s on your list?

Top 10 Tuesdays

Top 10 Tuesday: Books I Picked Up On A Whim

This week’s topic for Top 10 Tuesday is books that you picked up on a whim. This topic is basically talking about all the books that I bought without hearing anything about them. I do buy a lot of books because I have heard people talk about them on Youtube/ Blogs/ Goodreads etc. However, I do also pick up books at random especially from charity shops or the library. I pick books up either because of the title, cover or blurb. Sometimes doing this I can find some real gems and other times I find books that are not as good as I was hoping.

Neptune's Tears

Neptune’s Tears by Susan Waggoner- I picked this up in The Works. For those of you who don’t know The Works offers a deal where you can get 3 books for £5. I’d already found 2 books and I needed a third so I grabbed this one. The cover and title really intrigued me. I briefly read the blurb but for some reason, I thought that this was a fantasy novel. It is instead a dystopian love story. I ended up not really enjoying this book as I found it quite slow and I didn’t like the romance between the two characters.

Stonebird by Mike Revell- I really enjoyed this book. It is about Liam and a magical gargoyle. The gargoyle protects Liam and whenever Liam tells it stories they come true. He uses the gargoyle to help his grandma who has dementia. This dealt with topics such as family, bullying, and dementia and I thought that it dealt with these topics very well.

Shine by Candy Gourlay- This book was a really good read. It follows Rose who has a disease known as The Calm which means that she can’t speak. I found it slow to start with but by the end, I found it really enjoyable.

Royal Harlot

Royal Harlot by Susan Holloway Scott- I picked this up in a charity as I needed it for a challenge I was participating in. I need to read a book with a yellow dress on the cover. This is a historical fiction novel set during the reign of Charles 2nd which is a period I am not very familiar with. I enjoyed this book but I felt that there was too much of a focus on sex rather than the actual story.

The Iron Witch

Iron Witch by Karen Mahoney– This book sounded really interesting but I found it to be really disappointing. It  felt too similar to other YA books that I have read. I felt that the plot seemed very formulaic and it tried to get as many YA tropes in as it possibly could.

Little Bones

Little Bones by Janette Jenkins– I was intrigued by this story as it is a historical fiction set during the Victorian period. The story follows Jane Stretch who is a cripple. Her parents abandoned her and she ends up working for a doctor who performs illegal abortions. It took me awhile to get into but I ended up enjoying it.

Emerald by Karen Wallace- Despite being a quick read I thought in places that it was a bit slow. This is another historical fiction set during the time of Queen Elizabeth 1st. Emerald is set to marry a horrible man but when she learns of a plot to kill the queen she goes undercover at court to discover the plot. However, this was more of a subplot and the main focus was on Elizabeth and her marriage.

Wonder by R.J. Palacio-I picked this up in the library as it sounded really interesting. It is about a boy with a facial abnormality which is something that I never read about before. This follows his journey as he goes to school for the first time.

The Siren

The Siren by Kiera Cass– I read this book before it was republished this year. I picked it up as I really enjoy siren/mermaid stories and this one sounded really interesting. I ended up really enjoying it. I want to reread the new version as I know that Kiera Cass has rewritten parts of it.

Switched by Amanda Hocking– I picked this up in Tesco. What initially drew me to this was the cover and then I read the blurb and I was really interested in the story. This book is about trolls which is an unusual topic and I had never read anything with trolls in before. I ended up really enjoying this trilogy and I would highly recommend it.

When I found out about The Bane Chronicles I knew I had to have it. Magnus Bane is one of my favourite characters so I was very excited to read this collection of short stories all about my favourite character. This collection did not disappoint me and I really enjoyed learning more about Magnus.
