The Siren

  1. The Little Mermaid – a character who is out of their element, a “fish out of water”

The Siren by Kiera Cass- Kahlen

This is quite a literal answer. Kahlen is a siren but she leaves the water to try and live a normal human live. She finds it difficult as the sea is always calling her back to the ocean.

  1. Cinderella – a character who goes through a major transformation

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas- Celaena

Celaena grows so much between the first book and the third book. I also really enjoyed reading The Assassin’s Blade as we got to see so many sides to her.

  1. Snow White – a book with an eclectic cast of characters

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Claire

The Mortal Instruments has such a wide range of characters and I love them all. There are mundanes, shadowhunters, warlocks and vampires.

The 5th Wave

  1. Sleeping Beauty – a book that put you to sleep

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

This is such a popular book but I found it so boring and I really struggled to finish it.

  1. The Lion King – a character who had something traumatic happen to them in childhood

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

You could pick nearly every character from the Lunar Chronicles as they all seem to have something bad happen to them during childhood.

City of Bones

  1. Beauty and the Beast – A beast of a book (a big book) that you were intimidated by, but found the story to be beautiful

City of Bones by Cassandra Claire

Although this book isn’t actually that long (485 pages) I was put off reading it as I didn’t want to start a series where the books were really long if I wasn’t going to enjoy it. I am glad I did start the series though as I really like it.

The Fault In Our Stars

  1. Aladdin – a character who gets their wish granted, for better or worse

Hazel Grace from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Hazel Grace wanted to go to Amsterdam and she got her wish she even got to meet her favourite author even if it did turn out to be really disappointing.

Gone Girl

  1. Mulan – a character who pretends to be someone or something they are not

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I won’t tell you which characters I am referring to as it will be a spoiler. The characters in this book are not at all what they appear.

  1. Toy Story – a book with characters you wish would come to life

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I love this series so much and the characters are some of my favourite characters ever written.

Fairest

  1. Disney Descendants – your favorite villain or morally ambiguous character

Queen Levana

She is such a good villain. She is so evil and some of the things that she does and says are really shocking.

If you’ve done this post send me the link as I’d love to read other people’s answers.
